3D object BMP raster files

Post by Raid0 »

What are the recommended settings for the BMP raster files that are displayed on the project. When I insert my own objects to the project the scrolling around my project
gets verry, verry slow. I have a i5 @3.10GHz with 8GB Ram and 1GB video memory. I save the BMP files in around 100x50px at 8KB size. When I get scroll to the point where
my own 3d objects are shown the scrolling gets verry, verry slow. When I move around in a place where are objects that came with the program there is no problem.
When I delete the BMP files for my objects and get the grey boxes everithing is fine. Are there any settings I have to set for the BMP files when saveing.

Hope you understand what I mean.

Thank you for your question.
Redrawing projections of 3D models takes some time but it is not noticeable in the most cases. The time can become noticeable when these projections have large bmp files, there are many 3D model projections on the screen simultaneously or PC is weak. But your PC is not weak (i5 @3.10GHz with 8GB Ram and 1GB video memory).
To increase speed of redrawing please use for horizontal projections of your own 3D models bmp files as small as possible.
You can see bmp files of existing 3D models in the Program Files/VideoCAD7/Models directory. There are files about 100*100pix, 13kB and more and they work well. These files have 24 bit color. Your file must be like these files and your file must be redrawing during approx the same time. If your file requires much more time for redrawing, try to open your bmp file in Paint and save to 24 bit color bmp format.
Send me your file and your project in case of trouble.

Thank you for the reply!
Now we have a nother problem. We get out of memory error with just one megapixle cameras 3D window open. Windows task manager shows that 3.75GB of RAM is used. We are using Windows 7 64bit with 8GB of ram. Does the application support 64Bit OS with more than 4GB of memory. After clicking the memory full for three times we got somekind of floating point error and the app complately freezed.

VideoCAD supports Windows 7 64bit. We have many customers with this OS.
Please send me your project file by email and describe your actions step by step.

Thank you for your files.

The problem is in your new 3D models, exported from 3ds Max

3D model varikatus.vcm has too big ratio between horizontal and vertical size, more than 1200000.
VideoCAD can't generate vertical projection for this 3D model, it must be 1х1200000 pixels!

We'll correct such cases in the new versions. However any correction will distort the result. But now you can solve this problem in two ways:
1. Delete varikatus.vcm from Models directory.
3. Regenerate 3D model varikatus.vcm with ratio between horizontal and vertical size no more than 20.

Your other 3D models may have similar problems, please check. Probably the problem of slow scrolling has the same reason.

We removed that abject and it got a little better. We are still getting random application freezes when we have the monitor open with 8 cameras and animation running.
Does the application support 64bit? When we look at the task manager it shows *32 behind videocad.exe and the maximum memory used when using videocad is 3.7GB of Ram.

We got the following error to "Error: Access violation at 0x75F1160A (tried to write to 0x0E31FD8), program terminated.

Be careful with animation. Don't keep the animation ON when you don't need it. Don't perform any action with the program while animated images are being generated.
Just in case save your working project before starting animation.

VideoCAD is a 32bit program, and it works on 64 bit machine like any other 32 bit program.

I just sent you an email with additional instructions how to solve this issue. May be some of your new 3D models have problems. Please delete all your new
models from Models directory and test VideoCAD working.

In VideoCAD9 the speed of redrawing rotated 3D models in the Graphics window is increased. So you can use 3D model projections with more resolution.

See also upgraded instruction in the Plugin of importing 3D models. It is supplemented by several advises how to prepare 3D models in SketchUP for exporting.

Please see What is new in VideoCAD
